Raid Your Old Toy Boxes for Cash

Are you a bit of a toy hoarder? Do you have a crap-ton of original toys from your youth? Did you take good care of those toys? If you answered yes to these questions you might be sitting on a treasure trove.

Let me tell you a quick story. My husband, born in the late 70’s, was a child of the mid-80’s and early 90’s. He grew up watching the original versions of Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and G.I Joe. His parents bought him all kinds of action figures and other toys from those shows and some are worth a lot of money today. Yay him!
Unfortunately, my mother-in-law sold most of my husbands’ toys at a yard sale while he was away at college and he later found out that he had a few things that are now worth between $200 and $2000. Don’t be like my husband. Don’t let your mom sell you original 80’s-90’s toys while you are away at college. I would suggest you find your old toy box and I suggest you get your toys appraised immediately.

Hopefully you will have something of value that you can sell for some cold hard cash. Keep in mind that better kept toys are worth a lot more than something you chewed on and threw in a dark damp corner. Also, some toys from the golden era of toydom still won’t be worth much or anything at all even if they were well kept, but it is still worth a shot to do some research.

Do some independent research before you go to an appraiser to see how much if anything your old toys are worth.

Toys from the 90’s and earlier will be worth more than current era toys most of the time.

Well kept toys will be worth more than ill kept toys.

Rare toys will also be worth more money than mass produced easy to find toys.

Transformers, G.I. Joes, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and other popular toys like those may fetch higher prices than lesser know toys from lesser known shows.

Use a reputable appraiser so you will avoid getting scammer.

Do your own research before going to see a reputable and experienced toy appraiser to avoid getting scammed.

Remember some well kept popular toys may not catch a high price.

Good luck!
