Make $14-18 Teaching Children from Home with VIPKID

Do you love children? Do you have a bachelors degree? Do you have at least one year of teaching experience? Do you have a computer with an expedient internet connection? Can you speak Chinese and English fluently?

If you answered yes to the above, teaching for VIPKID may be for you.

What do VIPKID teachers do?

VIPKID was founded in 2013 and has a rating of 3.6 out of 5 on Indeed and a rating of 4.1 out of 5 on Glassdoor.com.¬†The company “provides the American elementary experience to Chinese students- all from the comfort of their homes.”

As a teacher with this company you would be an independent contractor. You would be providing 1:1 lessons with Chinese and you will be teaching English exclusively online. You can make your own schedule and use VIPKID resources to instruct. Lesson planning is not required.

What are the requirements to work for VIPKID?

To work for this platform you have to have a bachelors degree, one year of teaching experience, and experience with American or Canadian K-12 core curriculum’s. You will also need your own computer with a web cam, mic, and a fast internet connection.

There are availability requirements. As a teacher with this platform you would have to be available for 15 time slots per week. Some teachers report that they make more money working on weekends. Keep in mind there is a 12-14 hour time difference between China and the US and Canada.

How much do teachers make?

The rate of pay per hour on Indeed.com for this position is $14-18 an hour. I have seen reports of people easily making $200 to $1000 per month. This opportunity seems to be best as a supplemental income and not a full time job.

There is a $15 wire fee for your pay and you have to pay taxes on your own.

Final Thoughts.

Most reviews for VIPKID seem to be mostly positive. Contractors have reported that communication between them and customer service can be difficult. Apparently some of the customer service reps or tech support reps may not speak English well.

A lot of students are no-shows and the hours are way early.
